Andre Onana Displays true colours after being axed by Cameroon…

In Tuesday’s crucial Africa Cup of Nations group match against Gambia, Cameroon’s starting lineup included no Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United.

Despite losing his spot in Cameroon’s starting lineup, Andre Onana expressed his desire for the Indomitable Lions to perform well at the Africa Cup of Nations.

As his squad managed just one point from their encounters with Senegal and Guinea, Manchester United goalkeeper Onana started his team’s opening two group games. He was out of the picture against Gambia, though, as Cameroon needed three points to advance.

In Onana’s place, Fabrice Ondoa gave up twice, meaning that with four minutes remaining, Cameroon needed two goals. Nevertheless, those goals were scored, and there was still time for an additional Gambia goal to be disqualified for handball.

Onana and Cameroon manager Rigobert Song haven’t always agreed, and following the 2022 World Cup, the goalkeeper announced his resignation from the national team due to a falling out with the former Liverpool defender. Before the AFCON, he changed his mind, although the team didn’t play well in the first two matches.

With Guinea using ten men for the whole second half of the match, the first group encounter finished in a draw. After the second match, in which holders Senegal claimed a 3-1 victory, Onana’s performance came under scrutiny, but Song chose not to respond to the public’s criticism.

Song declared, “My players fought. I’m not going to blame anyone. I’m going to take responsibility.” We have to admit that Senegal was superior to us.”
