Conor Coventry to Sheffield Wednesday on ‘Life Support’ Despite Charlton Medical

The Sheffield Star reports that the agreement to move Conor Coventry from West Ham to Sheffield Wednesday now appears “very unlikely” to go through.

The newspaper said on Thursday, January 11, on its website that a source had put the 23-year-old’s permanent transfer to the Championship team “on life support.”

The former Republic of Ireland youth international is now expected to sign a contract with Charlton Athletic after tweeting on Thursday that the midfielder is undergoing a medical with the League One team, talkSPORT journalist Natasha Everitt said.

Given his struggles to establish himself in the first squad at the London Stadium, Coventry’s departure from West Ham during this transfer window is not surprising in the slightest.

The Hammers academy product has spent the last few years abroad on loan, so he hasn’t had many chances to make an impression in East London.

Only ten games have the midfielder played for the team, and only one of those games took place in the Premier League.
Everyone connected to the Irons will wish him well as he attempts to carve out a prosperous career for himself in the game, even though it doesn’t really matter where he goes this month.

He might be able to get more first-team opportunities and continue his development in his native London if he moves to Chartlon.
