Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy apologizes after leaving for Switzerland at Euro 2024, as Alan Shearer SLAMS the Azzurri.

Italy went out of Euro 2024 after a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in Berlin

Goalie Gianluigi Donnarumma of Italy has expressed regret for the Azzurri’s 2-0 loss to Switzerland that sent them out of Euro 2024.

Switzerland advanced to the competition’s round of eight thanks to goals from Remo Freuler and Ruben Vargas, after Murat Yakin’s team dominated the majority of the match in Berlin.

Donnarumma, who had to put on a brave front when his country lost, acknowledged that the holders were much below par and that Italy had not performed well during the tie.

“All we can do is apologize to our fans. We haven’t played well the entire game, and that is unacceptable. Donnarumma stated, “That’s the reality,” according to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter). “We performed appallingly in the first half. We have to acknowledge that it is the reality.”

In his post-match press conference, Italy’s coach Luciano Spalletti reiterated the same point, claiming his team did not play with the same intensity as Switzerland for the full 90 minutes.

The former Napoli manager said, “One of [the] characteristics is the lack of tempo.” The ability to run hard is a skill that not many of our guys possess. To recover the ball as soon as possible, everyone is now pressing hard and making aggressive movements. They will all huddle in around you if you can’t “clear” the ball in two or three passes.”
