Green Bay Packers Facing Dilemma: The Future of AJ Dillon

AJ Dillon has proven himself as a reliable asset for the Green Bay Packers since he was selected by them in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Over his initial four seasons in the NFL, the former Boston College standout has accumulated 2,428 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. While contributing to three playoff appearances for the Packers, injuries sidelined him during the 2023 season.

As his rookie contract nears its end, Dillon is poised to enter free agency this offseason, prompting the Packers to address his status. Head coach Matt LaFleur expressed his preference to retain both Dillon and Aaron Jones for the upcoming season, recognizing the necessity for multiple running backs in the league. However, with Jones commanding a significant $17.6 million cap hit in 2024, financial constraints may force the Packers to choose between the two, likely leaning towards Jones.

With Dillon’s departure from Green Bay looming, speculation arises regarding his next destination. CBS Sports suggests potential fits for the 25-year-old in run-heavy offenses like the Baltimore Ravens or the Cleveland Browns, where he could serve as a valuable short-yardage or interim option, especially in light of Nick Chubb’s injury recovery.
