India Triumphs in Historic Davis Cup Clash Against Pakistan on Pakistani Soil…

In Islamabad on Saturday, India emerged victorious in both Davis Cup singles matches against Pakistan, marking the first time in 60 years that these arch-rivals faced off on Pakistani soil. The International Tennis Federation’s denial of India’s request to relocate the tie on security grounds led to India’s team traveling to Pakistan, a move not undertaken since 1964.

The last Davis Cup encounter between the two nations occurred in Kazakhstan in 2019, with India maintaining an undefeated 7-0 record against Pakistan in all Davis Cup meetings. Tensions and historical animosities have made sports matches between Pakistan and India infrequent.

In the Group 1 play-off first-round tie, India’s singles specialist Ramkumar Ramanathan secured a victory over Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-0, lasting two hours. Qureshi, at the age of 43, suffered a hamstring injury in the second set, hampering his performance in the decisive third set. Sriram Balaji of India also claimed a win against Aqeel Khan with a score of 7-5, 6-3, concluding the match in an hour and 15 minutes.

The doubles and reverse singles are scheduled for Sunday, offering further opportunities for both teams to assert their dominance. The results from the singles matches were as follows: Ramkumar Ramanathan (India) defeated Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (Pakistan) with scores of 6-7, 7-6, 6-0, and Sriram Balaji (India) triumphed over Aqeel Khan with a score of 7-5, 6-3—APP
