Los Angeles Clippers’ G League Team Relocates and Rebrands as San Diego Clippers: A Homecoming in Oceanside

The Los Angeles Clippers organization has announced plans to relocate and rebrand their G League team to Oceanside, California, adopting the name San Diego Clippers for the upcoming 2024-25 season. This decision represents a nod to the team’s historical origins and coincides with the NBA team’s shift to the Intuit Dome in Inglewood.

The San Diego Clippers will call the newly constructed Frontwave Arena their home, symbolizing a fresh start for the team and its ties to the San Diego sports community.

This move holds sentimental value for the Clippers, as their NBA team previously played in San Diego from 1978 to 1984. The current G League franchise, formerly known as the Ontario Clippers, will wrap up its season in Ontario, California, before the transition. It was previously named the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario.

Lawrence Frank, the Clippers’ president of basketball operations, will oversee the basketball operations for both the NBA and G League teams, ensuring a cohesive approach throughout the organization.

Gillian Zucker, CEO of Halo Sports and Entertainment, expressed excitement about reintroducing the San Diego Clippers to the vibrant sports market. She emphasized the importance of the G League team in the organization’s basketball operations and looks forward to the move to Frontwave Arena.

This strategic decision not only underscores the Clippers’ dedication to nurturing talent through their G League affiliate but also reinforces their presence in the California sports scene.
