Nail-Biting Action Unfolds in Ranji Trophy Group A: Saurashtra Takes Narrow Lead, Jharkhand Faces Tough Challenge…

In the Ranji Trophy Group A clash between Saurashtra and Manipur, stand-in skipper Arpit Vasavada played a steady innings, securing a composed half-century.

Despite opener Harvik Desai narrowly missing a fifty, the defending champions managed to take a narrow first-innings lead on the opening day. At stumps, Saurashtra, responding to Manipur’s total of 142, stood at 153 for three, leading by 11 runs.

In the absence of regular skipper Jaydev Unadkat, Vasavada led the team, and India batter Cheteshwar Pujara pushed himself down the order.

Saurashtra’s bowlers took advantage of familiar conditions, limiting Manipur to 142 in 45 overs, with veteran spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja taking four wickets. Despite fine starts by Manipur’s Al Bashid Muhammed (51) and captain Langlonyamba Keishangbam (61), Jadeja’s performance led to the tourists posting a below-par total.

Saurashtra’s response saw Harvik Desai steadying the innings after quick dismissals, forming a crucial 106-run partnership with Vasavada.

The defending champions reached 141/3, taking a narrow lead before stumps were drawn. With Saurashtra’s batting depth and Pujara finding form, the hosts aim to build a substantial total and target an innings win.

Meanwhile, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand faced a low total of 188 on day one, with Rajasthan scoring 79 for 2 in reply at stumps.

In Delhi, Maharashtra posted 225 against Services, and in Nagpur, Vidarbha reached 313 for 5 against Haryana.

Overall, the day showcased some compelling performances, with stand-in captains, veteran bowlers, and partnerships shaping the course of the matches.
