New Orleans Pelicans Top Los Angeles Clippers: McCollum and Williamson Lead Charge

C.J. McCollum tallied 25 points, 13 of which came in the final quarter, while Zion Williamson contributed 21 points and 10 assists as the New Orleans Pelicans handed the Los Angeles Clippers a 117-106 defeat on Wednesday night.

Brandon Ingram chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds for the Pelicans, who kicked off a four-game road trip with their fourth consecutive win, matching their season’s longest winning streak. Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III also made significant contributions with 13 points each.

Jonas Valanciunas managed eight points for New Orleans before exiting the game in the second quarter due to a bruised right calf.

The Clippers faced a tough schedule, playing at home immediately after returning from their final Grammys trip. The team showed signs of fatigue, falling behind by 17 points in the first quarter. Despite a slow start, Paul George managed to find his rhythm in the second half.

James Harden surpassed Maurice Cheeks for 15th place on the NBA’s all-time career assists list during the second quarter.

Injuries impacted both teams, with Herb Jones and Jonas Valanciunas briefly leaving the game due to collisions. Naji Marshall was sidelined for New Orleans with a back injury, while Ivica Zubac returned for the Clippers after missing one game with a calf strain.

James Harden led the Clippers with 19 points, followed by Norman Powell with 18 points. Kawhi Leonard scored 15 points, while Paul George struggled, finishing with only seven points after missing his initial nine shots. The loss marked only the sixth defeat for the Clippers in 32 games since December.

Despite playing through a bone bruise in his left foot, Zion Williamson showcased his dominance in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 points and nearly reaching his career-high in assists. McCollum’s crucial three-pointer with 5:15 remaining extended the Pelicans’ lead to 105-89, securing their victory.
