Russell Wilson’s Potential Move to the Vikings: An Unlikely But Intriguing Possibility

It remains unlikely that Russell Wilson will join the Vikings this offseason, but it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility. Expected to be released by the Broncos, he may sign with a new team for the veteran minimum, presenting an interesting option for Kevin O’Connell and Minnesota if Kirk Cousins departs in free agency.

The Broncos are likely to release Wilson before March 17th to avoid a $37 million guarantee for 2025. While he’s already guaranteed $39 million for this season, Denver is anticipated to designate him as a post-June 1 cut, accepting some dead money and moving on after two disappointing seasons.

As any money he receives from a new team offsets what the Broncos owe, he may sign with another team, possibly as a starter, for just the minimum $1.21 million. Wilson may see this as an opportunity to revive his Hall of Fame potential with a fresh start.

Despite recent struggles, the 35-year-old, a nine-time Pro Bowler, could attract significant interest if he only seeks the minimum salary. Teams like the Steelers, Raiders, and Falcons could be potential destinations, alongside the Vikings.

While Wilson’s style may not perfectly align with O’Connell’s offense, his skills, including a strong deep ball and extensive experience, make him an intriguing option. Adjustments to the offense could be made to accommodate him. The move could also be appealing to Wilson, given the talented receiving options in Minnesota. Perhaps the Vikings could sign Wilson to a one-year deal and draft a young quarterback to develop behind him. While not the most probable outcome for the Vikings’ quarterback situation, it’s a scenario worth keeping an eye on.
