In a recent seven-round mock draft on Pro Football Network, the Green Bay Packers made strategic moves, trading back four spots and ultimately selecting Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin as their 29th overall pick in the first round.
As part of this hypothetical trade, the Packers also acquired valuable third- and fourth-round picks in the 2025 draft.
Nubin, known for his versatility and proven playmaking skills, transitioned to safety in 2020, replacing Antoine Winfield at Minnesota.
Described as “incredibly violent” by Gophers coach P.J. Fleck, Nubin could bring a dynamic presence to the Packers’ defense. Interestingly, if chosen by the Packers, Nubin expressed a preference for jersey No. 27.
Moving on to the second round, the Packers selected Rutgers cornerback Max Melton and Florida State running back Trey Benson. Melton, the younger brother of Packers receiver Bo Melton, boasts similar athleticism and an impressive record of eight interceptions and 21 passes defensed in his final three college seasons.
Benson, characterized as an “explosive, relentless” runner with sharp receiving skills by analyst Ian Cummings, adds depth to the Packers’ running back position.
In a competitive spirit, Melton shared his motivation to excel by competing against his brother in one-on-one matchups during team practices.
The third-round picks included Maryland offensive tackle Delmar Glaze, seen as a developmental prospect needing improvement in run blocking, and North Carolina linebacker Cedric Gray. Gray, who fits into the 4-3 scheme, demonstrated his prowess with impressive tackle numbers, including tackles for loss, sacks, and forced fumbles during his college career.
On Day 3, the Packers made various selections, addressing positions such as edge defender/4-3 defensive end, slot/safety, offensive line, receiver, defensive tackle, and another safety.
Noteworthy among these picks is Oregon’s Evan Williams, a versatile defensive back who played multiple positions during his final season, earning recognition at the Senior Bowl as the best “defensive specialist” by opposing players.
Williams, who spent his initial four years at Fresno State, showcased his ability to make plays against elite competition, emphasizing his eagerness to learn and adapt quickly.
Overall, the Packers’ mock draft choices reflect a strategic approach to enhance their roster across various positions and add promising talent to the team.
