Toronto Raptors Acquire Kelly Olynyk in Multi-Player Trade with Utah Jazz: NBA Deadline Deals

According to various sources on Thursday, the Toronto Raptors have secured Canadian center Kelly Olynyk in a multi-player transaction with the Utah Jazz.

In addition to Olynyk, the Jazz are reportedly trading shooting guard Ochai Agbaji to Toronto in return for point guard Kira Lewis Jr., forward Otto Porter Jr., and a 2024 first-round draft pick, as per multiple reports.

Olynyk, a 32-year-old hailing from Kamloops, B.C., has posted averages of 8.1 points and 5.1 rebounds across 50 games (eight starts) this season with the Jazz. This marks his fifth NBA team since being selected as the No. 13 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Throughout his career, he holds averages of 10.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in 728 games (242 starts).

Agbaji, aged 23, has recorded averages of 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 51 games (10 starts) with Utah during his second season in the league, subsequent to leading Kansas to the NCAA championship in 2022.

Lewis, aged 22, has played only one game with the Raptors after being recently acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans via the Indiana Pacers as part of the Pascal Siakam trade. Across four seasons with the Pelicans, he played 118 games, averaging 5.4 points per game.

Porter, aged 30, joined Toronto on a two-year, $12.3-million US contract ahead of the 2022-23 season but was limited to just 23 games over two seasons due to injuries. With five teams in his career, Porter holds averages of 10.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game across 527 games (319 starts).

In a separate move, the Philadelphia 76ers, struggling in the Eastern Conference standings without the injured all-star Joel Embiid, have acquired guard Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for Marcus Morris Jr., Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round draft picks, according to a source familiar with the decision who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity since the trade was not yet official.

The trade was made by Sixers president Daryl Morey ahead of the NBA trade deadline, with the team facing a challenging period due to Embiid’s absence following knee surgery. Hield, who will earn $19.2 million this season in the final year of his contract, has averaged 12 points in 52 games with the Pacers this year and holds a career three-point shooting percentage of 40 percent.
