Tottenham to battle Manchester United and Liverpool for Midfielder

Tottenham are anticipated to enter the competition for Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney; however, they will have to bid for the 21-year-old until the summer.

Hackney has flourished this season and is drawing interest from several Premier League teams, including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool.

When he lines up for Middlesbrough against Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday night at the Riverside, interested clubs will be closely observing.

Although Middlesbrough has informed clubs that they will only sell their valued asset in January if a tremendous offer is made for Hackney, they are still prepared for summer proposals.

Hackney, a North East native and recent academy graduate, has no intention of leaving Middlesbrough, who are hoping to finish in the Championship play-offs this year. The England Under-21 midfielder will eventually go, Middlesbrough has accepted.

Ideally, they would like to incite a bidding war, with Spurs being the biggest supporters of a player who is trained by former Spurs midfielder Carrick.

Hackney is a technically proficient defensive midfield player who can drive through the middle of the pitch to break the press.

Clubs like Spurs, City, and Liverpool are especially interested in him because, depending on future player sales, they might find it difficult to reach their quota of homegrown players in UEFA competitions.

At least eight players, four of whom must come from the club’s own youth system, must be developed by clubs in the same national league.
